Session 1 – Seusspeare

1 Week – July 9th-13th from 9:00-4:00
Final Production July 14th @ 1:00 PM at The Backdoor Theater in Nederland
Tuition: $200
Optional lunch for the week: $40
Limited to 25 students

Forget rhyming couplets! Forget Elizabethan English! This is Shakespeare as Dr. Seuss would have written it. A Shakespearean classic told in Dr. Seuss rhyme, sprinkled with contemporary references to add to the silliness !

We have 3 potential titles: Hamlet Hears a Who, Meet the Macbeths, and Romeo and Juliet Restaurant Wars. We will choose a script for our final production based on the number and ages of enrolled students.

On the first day of camp, we will do some warm-up activities to get to know each other and then move into Auditions for roles in the production. Auditions will consist of cold-readings from the script. All students will receive a speaking role.

The following camp days will start with games and warm-up activities and move into production rehearsals. The afternoon of the final day will be a production dress rehearsal.

Seusspeare will be directed by Dr. Jocelyn Brown who holds a PhD in theatre.  Assisting with the production and camp will be Peak to Peak Players Co-Artistic directors Jacquelyn O’Brien and Angela Hunt.  Go to our Facebook page  fb.me/peaktopeakplayers to learn more about our camp staff!

Session 2 – Seussical Jr.

2 Weeks – Weekdays July 16th-27th from 9:00-4:00
Final Production July 28th @ 2:00 PM in the Gilpin School Auditorium
Tuition: $450
Optional lunch for the 2 weeks: $80
Limited to 35 Students

Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

For their final production, students will perform Seussical Jr., a one hour condensed version of the musical Seussical.

On the first day of camp, we will do some warm-up activities to get to know each other and then move into Auditions for roles in the production. Students should come prepared with a 16-32 bar excerpt from a musical theatre song of their choice. All students will receive a role in the production.

The following camp days will start with games and warm-up activities and move into production rehearsals. The final day of camp will be a production dress rehearsal (possibly at our performance location).

Our final day of camp, Friday, July 27th, will take place at the Gilpin School, and will be a dress rehearsal for our production.

Seussical will be directed by Peak to Peak Players Co-Artistic Director Jacquelyn O’Brien.  Musical direction will be provided by Gilpin School Music Teacher Misty Ebers, and local musician John Leventhal.  Dance instruction will be provided by Peak to Peak Players Co-Artistic Director Angela Hunt, and her wonderfully talented sister Annie Wolfe.  Go to our Facebook page  fb.me/peaktopeakplayers to learn more about our camp staff!
